I want to make the
background of my image appear transparent when I upload it to my website.
Can I do it in Image Broadway?
Yes, you certainly
can. You can do it in three simple steps as follows:
- Use the Pick Color (eye
dropper) button to pick up the color that you want to make transparent
as the "foreground" color.
- Use the Layers, Create Transparency > Foreground Color
menu to create transparency for that color.
- Use the Optimize, Convert and Optimize menu, select
either PNG or GIF as the format, select Matt = Use Foreground Color
and check off Transparency. Save the image, that's it!
Note: If the color that you want to
make transparent is not a solid color, first use the Layers, Create Transparency > Tolerance menu
to set a range of colors that will be made transparent.
Note: If you want to create
transparency only within a selected area, first select the area, use the Edit > Fill menu or the Fill tool, then fill
with "Transparency tranparent to make it transparent.
Quick Save: Version 5.x offers the
additional Quick Save option for creating transparency in GIF format. You
can use the File > Save Image As menu to
save your image in GIF and you will have the option to check off the
transparency option and select a matt color as the transparency color.
What is File
Association and how do I associate or dissociate file types in Image
Broadway?
In Windows, you can
associate a file type, for example JPEG, with a default application. That
means, when you launch a certain file type, it will be automatically
launched into the associated appliation. Windows will display the
associated program name and icons with all files of that file type. This
does not change the file in any way or keep you from using another
application to open those files.
When you install
Image Broadway for the first time, the installer will prompt you to
associate the recommended file types with Image Broadway. Uncheck the file
types that you do not wish to have associated with Image Broadway. You can
always use the File > Preference >
Associations menu to change the associations at a later time by
checking off those that you want to have associated with Image Broadway and
uncheck those that you don't. You can also use the Tools > Folder Options menu, File Types tab in Windows Explorer to change file association. This file association and dissociation
feature is available in most reputable image editors.
