How to do cut-out text

In this tutorial, we will show you how to create cut-out text with transparent background.

  1. Create a new image. Click on the Fill tool to open up the fill options. Press the Type's pulldown menu and select "Black color". Move the cursor over to the new image and click in the image to fill the page black. Now we have created a new image with black ground.

  2. Use the Text tool to add white text into the image shown in the Figure 10.09.2. Position the text in the proper area using the Move tool . Remember to use a large enough font size like 72 and make it bold to see the letters thicker. Also be sure to select a text color other than black.

  1. Use the menu function Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur and enter 4 as radius shown in Figure 10.09.3. The result of this function is shown in Figure 10.09.3b.

  1. Use the Layers > Merge > Merge All menu to merge the text into the background.
  2. Use the Pick a Color tool to pick up the black color as the foreground color. Use Layers > Create Transparency > Foreground Color to change the black background color to transparency, as shown in Figure 10.09.6. You can use the Layers > Create Transparency > Tolerance menu to vary the tolerance level (range) for transparency. It will give different effect and appearance to the cut-out text. A value of 50 is used in this example.
