InstallConstruct

Create basic to advanced installers for Windows

Compatibility: Windows 98/2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/2008 Server/7

 What are these sample templates?

The InstallConstruct Sample Templates are guidelines that you can use to create exactly the installer you need. They are organized by installer type, and within that type, the templates include the input files (usually Package Contents.txt), the output files, and the package script. Using these files, you can see examples of each type of package and make changes.

Why did we make these templates?

These Templates are designed to help you get the most out of InstallConstruct. They let you choose a type of package and see examples of how each one looks and how each one works so you can choose what you would like to add to your installer. These templates were created to give you, the user, a head start on creating your own professional setup routines. They can save you time by showing you a final product as well as all the options that get you there.

 Who needs these templates?

We should hope that all of our users could make some use of them, but we had a specific type of user in mind. These templates are aimed at the most common user, someone who does not have advanced programming knowledge, but needs to make a professional setup routine for their software quickly. Just a few minutes glance at each template, and we feel that anyone could create exactly what they want in minutes.

How do I get the templates to work?

You can download the Sample Template package and selectively install each or all of the templates. Just run the downloaded package, and select which packages you wish to install. Due to path constraints in the Template Script files, they will automatically be extracted to a specific folder on your C:\ drive from which they will run properly. Moving the files from that location may cause the files to function incorrectly.

In the Start Menu, you will find links to each of the files in the templates, including the Script file, the Output file, the Read Me file, and the uninstaller for each template. If you would like to remove a template, you can either run the uninstaller from the installed directory or the Start Menu, or you can select it in the Control Panel under Add/Remove Programs and click Remove. Once you have removed all of the individual components, you can remove all of the folders and registration entries by running the uninstall.exe file located in the main Template directory on your hard drive.

Once the templates are installed, you can run the already created output files to see examples of standard setup routines, from silent installation to a complete setup wizard. You can then open the script files in InstallConstruct, and step through the procedures to see how they work. Feel free to copy the scripts and include your own input files, graphics, and text!
